How the AI clipper works

  1. Upload your long video

A podcast, livestream, vlog, interview or talk, up to 120 minutes. MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM or MKV.

  2. Cowral finds the moments

It transcribes every word, then picks the parts that open strong, make sense on their own and land a payoff.

  3. Watch, then sign up to download

Watch up to 5 clips right here. Sign up free to download them clean, each with a title, the opening line and a caption you can paste.

How Cowral decides a moment is worth clipping

Cowral reads the whole transcript and looks for moments that would work for someone who has never seen your channel. Every clip it suggests is held to these rules:

A hook in the first 3 seconds

A bold claim, a question, a surprise or the setup to a punchline. Clips never open on filler like "so", "um" or "anyway".

It makes sense on its own

Someone who never saw the full video should follow it without needing what came before.

It pays off

An insight, a twist, an emotional peak, a laugh or a satisfying answer, so viewers feel the clip was worth finishing.

It ends on a complete thought

Start and end points snap to sentence boundaries, never mid-sentence.

15 to 90 seconds

The aim is 20 to 60 seconds. A story only runs longer when it needs to, and no two clips overlap.

What you get with each clip

Vertical and ready to post

Every clip is 1080x1920. Wide videos sit over a soft blurred copy of themselves, so nothing important gets cropped off.

Captions that follow the voice

Big, bold captions light up each word as it's spoken, so a clip still works for people scrolling with the sound off.

Clean starts and endings

Clips start and stop on full sentences, so nobody gets cut off mid-word.

A score for each clip

Each clip gets a 1 to 100 score for how well it should hold attention, so you know which one to post first.

Which videos make the best short clips

Podcasts and interviews

One strong answer from an hour-long conversation can stand on its own as a short clip. Upload the video version, not just the audio, so the clip shows faces.

Livestream replays

Streams run long and the best moments are spread out. The Clipper reads the whole replay, so you don't have to scrub through it.

Tutorials and webinars

A single tip, explained clearly, makes a useful short and points people back to the full lesson.

Commentary and vlogs

Opinions and stories with a clear setup and payoff clip well. Montages with music and no talking don't, because the Clipper picks moments from what's said.

Tips for better clips

  • Clear audio matters most. The Clipper chooses moments from the transcript, so a decent mic beats a better camera.
  • Say your best points plainly. A strong sentence that stands on its own is easier to clip than one that depends on the last five minutes.
  • Export at 1080p. It keeps the upload smaller and the clips sharp.
  • Post the clip with the strongest first sentence first, then test the others over the week.

Questions about the Clipper

Is the Clipper really free?

Yes. You can try it once a day on this page without an account and watch your clips with a small Cowral watermark. A free account downloads them clean and clips 1 video a day, with up to 5 clips from each. No card needed. Pro clips up to 10 videos a day.

Why do I need an account to download?

So your clips are saved somewhere you can come back to, and so we can keep the free tier free. Your free try counts as that day's free video once you sign up, and the clips move into your account automatically when you sign up in the same browser.

Do the clips work on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts?

Yes. Every clip is a vertical 9:16 MP4 between 15 and 90 seconds long, which all three accept. Each one comes with a suggested post caption you can paste.

Can I paste a YouTube link instead?

Not at the moment. Upload the video file itself. Only upload videos you own or have permission to use.

What happens to my video?

We delete your original video as soon as your clips are ready. The clips are kept for 7 days, then they're deleted too, so download the ones you want to keep.

How long does it take?

It can take several minutes, and longer for long videos. You don't need to keep the page open once the upload finishes; your clips will be waiting in the Clipper.

Which languages does it work in?

Captions, titles and post captions follow the language spoken in the video. Captions look best in languages written in the Latin alphabet, like English, Spanish, Portuguese and French.

What if a video fails?

If something goes wrong on our side, the video doesn't count toward your daily limit, so you can try again straight away.
